10 Years…I can’t believe it has already been that long ago. It is a day that we will never, ever, forget.
I can remember it so vividly too. We had just moved down to Florida a little over a year earlier and school had only been in session about a month. I was sitting in my Sociology class and we were working on a project. The phone rings and the look on our teacher’s face was full of shock and disbelief from what the person on the other end was telling them. He changes the channel on the TV and every channel is showing it, the top of the first tower is engulfed in smoke and flames. It feels like we’re watching a movie, it didn’t even seem real. We all stared in silence while it happened, the second tower was hit. We didn’t know what to do, we felt helpless. We spent the rest of the class just watching. The rest of the day continued the same way, teacher’s tried to continue with their lesson plans, but no one could concentrate. The TV’s in the lunchroom were even tuned into the events that were unfolding. It was such a surreal experience, and if that was how I was feeling, I can only imagine what those in New York City and Washington DC were feeling.
We will always remember what happened that day and we will never forget those who lost their lives that day and the loved ones that they left behind. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
