Investing in my Business

I’ve been bad…I know. I have no excuse for not posting more regularly!! But I want to share with you my new toy! I just got it the other day and it kills me that I haven’t been able to really use it much. I’ve been swamped at work and with the shop, I just haven’t had a chance. I finally bought my very own DSLR with my own hard-earned cash. I can not even begin to explain to you how proud of myself I am.

I promise you that I will take lots of beautiful photos soon and post them up for you all to see! I want to get in the habit of taking photos on the weekends when I actually get to experience the daylight hours. With daylight savings time, it’s dark when I go to work and it’s dark again when I come home. It’s pretty depressing actually.

Does anyone have any good DSLR/photography tips for a beginner? I’d love to hear them!

::Crossroads of Seasons::

I feel like I’m at a crossroads right now. I don’t want summer to end, but at the same time, I can’t wait for fall to begin. There’s nothing I love better than fall here in New England. The leaves are beautiful, the crisp air and smell of spices.

How can you not love it here? I had to move away from the North East once, and I don’t think I could do it again. I know people complain about the winter here, but honestly, it could be worse. Having the four seasons like this is perfect for me, and how I want it to always be. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. ;)

I am so ready for carving pumpkins this year. They’re going to be awesome, like the ones above possibly? Or maybe I’ll do another rendition of my Jack Skellington ones from two years ago, but in white like the ones pictured below?

What is your favorite jack o’ lantern design? Do you like to do something simple like a monogram, maybe create a crazy design, or do you prefer the more traditional toothy grin? Share your favorite design! :)

My deepest apologies…

Time flies doesn’t it? I realized the other day, amidst my packing and moving and also lovely Hurricane Irene, that I was supposed to celebrate my one year Etsy anniversary last weekend! How could that have slipped my mind?? I just wanted to take a moment and apologize for that and to promise it won’t happen again. ;)

Stay tuned for the run down on my anniversary celebration! It’s time for me to get my beauty rest now, but stay tuned for it in the morning!

{The joys of moving…}

So many changes are happening here within the next few weeks. Some good, some very good, some are a bit nerve-wracking. I just keep thinking to myself that it is all steps in the right direction. :]

Things are definitely crazy around here on the home front. We are in the final weeks of selling our condo and moving into a much smaller temporary living space until we are able to find our perfect home, as we haven’t found anything we truly love in the area. It is certainly stressful, but we both know this is the right decision and even though it will be hard at first, everything will work out in the end and be ten million times better! Positive thoughts!! Keep ’em flowing!

So with that being said, our condo is a complete mess of boxes and packing materials. I don’t even know where to start on my craft area. I’m afraid to pack it up because it will make processing orders very difficult, but I know I have to do it eventually. I’m trying to make it one of the last things I pack here and one of the first things to unpack when we move in to our new place. The shop is finally picking up with consistent sales and I don’t want anything to happen to wreck that! But unfortunately I will have to put a hold on things while we’re moving. It’s the joys of it all. I will certainly post an announcement in the shop when that is going to happen. ;]

On a side note, today was my last day ever of having to work in a big box retail store. All I can say is when I walked out those doors at the end of my shift, it was like a giant weight was lifted off of my shoulders. I will be working more days at my job at the doctor’s office and I couldn’t be happier with that. Everything is slowly starting to fall into place.

Those are just a few of the things, but they are the most substantial to us. I’m really trying to write on here at least once or twice a week, so I truly appreciate your patience with this, as its going to be a very hectic next couple of weeks.

Love you all and thank you for reading! :]

Blog Revamp

I spent a little time last night and actually revamped my blog a bit. It’s still not completely finished, but it looks a whole lot better than it did. I’m still going to be doing a little bit of tweaking here and there, but it’s definitely looking good.

I just wanted to share the updates. Let me know what you guys think! :)

Photos of the Infamous Wrap Bracelet

Alright, I promised photos yesterday and photos I have! First things first is the infamous bracelet I have been working on and talking about. It’s a wrap bracelet, which I had intended on it being a double wrap, but it ended up as a triple wrap{my wrists are smaller than I thought they were apparently..}. The thing I like about the wrap bracelets though is that it doesn’t matter what size your wrist is, you just adjust it accordingly by how many times you wrap it around.

I gave two views, both just by itself and the other is wearing it on my wrist. Also from what the woman told me about the cord is that the more its worn, the softer it will get. I love the colors of the beads, the earth tones are great.

Next up, is my lovely Homegoods find, my cork board! It still isn’t mounted up on the wall, but I propped it up so at least you can see what it’ll look like next to the blue. Nice huh? I’ll take another photo once its up and I have things actually attached to it.

I have on more thing to share, but I want it to have its own post, so you’ll be seeing it a little later on. For now, enjoy and feel free to let me know your thoughts on what I shared! Hope you all have a fantastic weekend, and for those of you up here in New England, stay warm! :)

Wrap Bracelets and Cork board Galore!

Ok, maybe not “Galore”…but you know what I mean. ;)

So I have been working on this bracelet for the past three days. I *FINALLY* finished it tonight. I made it using the cord I got at the bead show and some multi-colored jasper beads I had. It turned out fantastic and I actually think I may be keeping this one for myself. I’ll make another one for the shop I’m sure, but this one turned out so pretty I can’t bear to part with it. I also need to start making things for me as well, I don’t do that enough. I need to be able to wear it out and promote my own work! haha

I unfortunately do not have a photo yet, as I couldn’t get a good photo of it with the lack of lighting in this room. I’ll have to wait til the morning so I can use the morning sunlight to brighten the room up. So I promise, there will be a photo of it tomorrow!

I was in Homegoods the other day and saw something that would be perfect for the office. It was a framed cork board{yeah I know, how can a framed cork board be anything special?} and it was so pretty! It was in a pretty blue antique frame and I loved it, but unfortunately didn’t buy it because the room I wanted it in is also blue. So yeah…that wouldn’t have worked out too well. I still liked it though and wanted to show Bil and he agreed to come with me to see it. I showed it to him and he loved it too{double yay!}! I was determined to find it in the antique white that I was hoping for, and lo and behold, in the back corner of the store was the cork board frame in Antique White!!! I was ecstatic! So we scooped it right up and off we went, after we paid for it of course.. ;)

It’s still sitting here on the ground waiting to be mounted though, and hopefully tomorrow it will be hanging nicely on the wall. I’m so excited! I want to use it as an inspiration board for myself. I’ll be sure to take pictures after it’s all up and complete.

Well time to get moving. I want to work more on my knitting tonight, I really want to finish this cowl. I’m determined to get it done by the end of next month. That is my goal, and I feel like its pretty realistic. Again, photos will come after it is complete. :)

Procrastination…you will be the end of me…

I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend so far! I actually have a Saturday off which doesn’t happen too often, so it’s a nice treat. Now if only my hubby had it off too, then it would be even better! We did have a very enjoyable breakfast with some great friends of ours this morning, so at least our day started off on the right foot. :)

Now I’m sitting here about to finish up some orders while I started thinking about how many crafts I wish I could do. I recently learned how to knit(my mom taught me when she was in town last month) and I’ve been working on making a cowl for myself. It’s really coming along quite nicely and I’m hoping to finish soon. I’ll be sure to post photos when its finished. My next step is to try my hand at making coffee cup cozies and maybe slipper socks. We’ll see how well that pans out. ;)

I used to cross stitch a fair amount years ago, and I miss doing that too. I tried picking it up again last year but I never did finish the project I was working on. I think my problem was that I picked something too large, I should have picked something smaller and worked my way up from there. I’ve always like the simple cross stitch patterns, I should get back into that. I’m an impatient person, so I need to work on smaller projects so I don’t get bored so easily.

Again, so many crafts that I want to do all at once. I have so many ideas in my head, but I’m also a procrastinator, so most of them never are seen to completion, and that’s a shame. Someday I’ll really sit down and work on something so I don’t have all these unfinished projects laying about. I also need to reorganize my craft area again, it looks horrendous. Again…procrastination will be the end of me. I always think to myself…’yes, I will do that later’. And later comes and goes…and its still a mess. I keep saying I’ll get myself on a schedule, but that never happens either. I need someone to hold me accountable!!! :)

Ok…speaking of procrastination..I need to get a move on. Lots to do and it’s already almost noon! I’ll be back later to share photos of what I did today, I promise!

xoxo
